Things To Do this Family Day Weekend!

This weekend is Family Day Weekend!

For a lot of us in Canada, we look forward to Family Day, a statutory holiday coming up this weekend! In the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Saskatchewan, the holiday always falls on the third Monday of February.

We began this tradition in 2008 and the intent of this day was for us all to enjoy a break between New Year’s and Easter while emphasizing the importance of spending time with family.

So get out this weekend and find some great activities to do with family and friends. There’s no shortage of great events!  Here are a few to consider:

City of Waterloo:

Swimming:

Several community pools in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge will be open with special swim schedules. Call each facility for more information.

Skating:

Free skate at Activa Sportsplex with Olympic gold medallist Gillian Apps, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m.

Free skate sponsored by MPP Daiene Vernile at Kiwanis Arena, from 1:30 to 3:20 p.m.

Carl Zehr Square in front of Kitchener City Hall is open for skating from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, weather dependant.

Museums open on Family Day:

• Woodside National Historic Site, 1 to 5 p.m.
• The Museum, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Waterloo Region Museum, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Joseph Schneider Haus, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• McDougall Cottage, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KW Titans

February 19^th Families can enjoy an exciting basketball game, fan giveaways, friendly competitions, a player autograph session and a chance to meet the Titans’ mascots Titus and the BMO Bear.

Skating and Snow Painting Fun in Elmira

Family Day events at the WMC include a family zumba class (10-10:45 a.m.) and family yoga class, 1-1:45 p.m. – spots are limited so register in advance. There will be free public swimming from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and free public skating from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
