As much as we love living in Kitchener-Waterloo, it’s always nice to get away from the city and enjoy the great outdoors. If you’re looking for a family-friendly camping destination, let us introduce you to Inverhuron Provincial Park. It’s located directly on Lake Huron, approximately 20 minutes away from Kincardine, and is one of the nicest parks in Southwest Ontario. Although it’s not one of the most popular provincial parks in this area, it is becoming busier each year as this little secret haven is being discovered by more and more families.
If the beach is what you are after, it’s only minutes away from your campsite. Located on the shores of Lake Huron, this beach is beautiful and offers great swimming and paddling. The sounds of waves can be heard from your campsite – reminding you just how close to the water you are. Don’t forget about the sunsets! One thing about being on Lake Huron is you cannot miss the beauty of watching the sun melt into the water on a summer evening – some of the best sunset pictures taken in Ontario are from this shore.
A new addition to the park this year is a small playground located near the beach. If the playground isn’t enough, then the kilometers of biking/hiking trails should do it! Sites are generally large and private offering a beautiful backdrop of trees and vegetation. If you are looking for more adventure, check out the Inverhuron Bike Park located only 2 km’s from the campground. Jumps, rails, hills, and ramps are provided for those looking to increase their skills on a bike. A new addition this year are rustic cabins (which didn’t look too rustic to me). Not interested in the tent or trailer camping? Book a cabin and enjoy the park with less set up. Bonus: these cabins are located right near the shoreline – talk about a view!
Looking to venture away from the campground? The beautiful and vast Kincardine Station Beach is only a short drive south and offers one of the nicest beaches in this area. Head north outside the campground and you will fine Port Elgin and McGregor Provincial Park which offers more hiking trails and excursions.
If you’re more interested in hitting the trails with your bike, Inverhuron Bike Park is only minutes from the park. Enjoy technical trails, or simply play on the jumps, rails and hills!
Worried about the proximity of this campground to the Bruce Nuclear Power Plant? Don’t be! It’s super neat to see it from the shores of Huron, and if you want to discover this landmark more there is a visitor center that will entertain all ages. Hands-on demonstrations and activities will keep everyone engaged!
Overall Inverhuron Provincial Park is a beautiful and clean campground that provides an excellent camping experience for all types of campers! It’s a short drive from Kitchener-Waterloo and it’s family-friendly with lots to do and experience. One piece of advice – bring your camera to capture those sunsets!
