Neighbourhood Spotlight: Conestogo

Conestogo

Welcome to Conestogo! This small, quaint town with strong Mennonite roots that was first settled in the 1820s. Its picturesque location – situated at the intersection of the Grand River and Conestogo River – is the perfect backdrop for several charming shops and long-standing businesses like the Blackforest Inn and Sittler’s Home Baking. Don’t pass through without stopping and picking up a baked treat!

The town, once known as Musselman’s Mills, has grown very slowly over the years.  Its population reported to be 1,270 people in 2016. This wonderful community is a convenient, five minute commute to Waterloo’s RIM Technology Park and is a great fit for people who want a country lifestyle without foregoing the benefits of a nearby city.

There is a mix of housing from beautiful century homes to newer, upscale homes backing onto the Conestoga Country Club, a 27-hole golf course nestled alongside the Grand River.

The town’s well-known restaurant is The Blackforest Inn, a wonderful place to enjoy fine food and live shows.
