Although I work from home regularly, this is a new experience for many. Here are some tips to help you stay organized and productive during this time.
Some may disagree with me, but i cannot feel fully productive in my day without officially getting ready for work. This means sticking to a routine of a proper breakfast and getting dressed as if I am heading out of the house.
It helps to have your week planned out in advance and then scheduled out each day. Seeing your day planned out and working through the list helps with keeping focused and productive. It’s also rewarding to look back and see what has been accomplished.
What time of day are you most productive? For me it’s in the morning, until about 2pm. Once you establish your most productive hours, look at your weekly to-do items and assign/sort your tasks into “high mental task” items and “low mental task items”. Complete your “high mental task” items during your optimal energy times, and ensure you define your work hours.
One of the perks of working home is being able to create a personalized work area. Create a space that is suited to your individual working style, and then add elements that promote an inspiring and productive space. For me, these elements are candles, my desk lamps, and some of may favourite indigo office decor items.
While working from home can be great, you still need to ensure that you break up your day. Take a walk, work-out make yourself a coffee or tea, read a book – whatever it is that gives your body and mind a break. This will often work to freshen-up and encourage the flow of new ideas and productivity.
